Hilton

Rev. Richard “Dale” Hilton, Sr. went home to be with the Lord on December 2, 2023. Born in Hickory, NC in 1935, he was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin Ray and Bertha Pope Hilton, and two brothers, Ray and Charles Hilton. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Margie Crafton Hilton; two sons, Richard “Rick” Jr. (Mary) of Wake Forest and Dennis Roy (Sherry) of Raleigh; one daughter, Jenny Lail (Scott) of Kernersville; and two sisters-in-law, Rebecca Hilton and Mary Lou Hilton. Survivors also include nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
As a United Methodist pastor, Hilton served for 37 years as a senior pastor and 22 years of retired ministry. He received his bachelor’s degree in history and theology from Lenoir Rhyne College in Hickory, NC and his Master of Divinity from Methodist Theological School in Delaware, Ohio. He began his ministry at Grace Chapel UMC in Granite Falls, NC and served the following churches in the Western North Carolina Conference: Shiloh UMC (Concord), Oak Grove and Maple Grove Charge (Mt. Airy), Grays Chapel (Asheboro), Chapel Hill and Christ Charge (Statesville), Proximity UMC (Greensboro), Friendship and Mt. View Charge (Newton), and Bradley Memorial UMC (Gastonia). Hilton concluded his ministry serving 22 years as Minister of Visitation at Main Street UMC in Kernersville.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted at Main Street United Methodist Church in Kernersville, NC on Sunday, December 10 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Dr. Mike Gehring and Rev. Dr. Al Ward will conduct the service. The burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Commons Area, following the burial.

Anders

Claude Osborne Anders, 95, of Kernersville, NC, passed away peacefully Thursday, November 30, 2023.
Born in Independence, VA, January 19, 1928, Claude was the devoted husband of 68 years to Lola Baker Anders and was the son of the late Willie Mack Anders and the late Anna Ella Myers Anders. He served in the United States Navy as a Corpsman from 1946 to 1949, stationed in Georgia (US). Claude worked for many years for Burlington Mills and Kayser-Roth Hosiery in various roles from a fixer to a supervisor. He was a beloved brother, cousin, uncle, brother-in-law, and neighbor who always had a kind word, a sense of humor, and a positive attitude for anyone he encountered; he never met a stranger.
Claude is preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Anna Anders and his brother, Clarence Anders. Survivors include his wife, Lola of the home; brother, Kyle Anders of Oak Ridge; sister, Betty Anders Blackburn of Kernersville; multiple sisters-in law and brothers-in-law; and multiple nieces and nephews.
A funeral service celebrating Claude’s life will be held at 1:00PM Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Services Kernersville Chapel. The family will greet friends from 12:00PM to 12:45PM Saturday prior to the service. Interment to follow at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory in Kernersville.

Crockett

Kernersville – William “Bill” Douglas Crockett, 89, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born in Wythe County, VA to the late Magdelene Porter Crockett and John Robinson Crockett. Growing up, Bill had a passion for baseball and was an excellent player, playing until the age of 32. He loved sports in general and was a fan of the Atlanta Braves, the LA Clippers, and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. He worked for Burlington Industries for 23 years as a supervisor and eventually retired from Royal Carolina after 13 years of service. Bill loved the outdoors as well, spending his time gardening (which he was really good at), fishing, and hunting. He was a family man and loved his kids and grandkids. Above all things, Bill loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be dearly missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Alice, JoAnn, and Gay; and one brother, Bob.
Left to cherish Bill’s memory are his loving wife, Della Mae Farris Crockett; four children, James (Tracy), Coody (Elizabeth), Mitch, and Teresa (David); three grandchildren, Austin, Travis, and Aaron; many nieces and nephews; one brother, Don Crockett (Regina); and one sister, Shelva Gravely (Clyde).
A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm, Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 1:45 pm prior to the service. Cissna

Robert Stewart Cissna, 74, of North Davidson County, N.C., passed away peacefully on Monday, November 27, 2023, at Kerner Ridge Assisted Living, Kernersville, NC.
Bob was born on November 14, 1949, in Cleveland, OH, and adopted by David and Nan Cissna. His early years were in Chicago, Ill., Kalamazoo, Mich. and, from age 13, Mt. Lebanon, Pa. He graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School in 1969.
Bob received training in small appliance repair from Goodwill Industries and worked for Black Box Corp. in Lawrence, Pa. He was a contract office cleaning person for a number of years prior to his retirement.
After his mother passed away in 2017, he relocated to North Carolina to live near his brother and sister-in-law, William and Kathy Anne Cissna, who survive him. He is also survived by his nephew, Andrew Robert Cissna; Andrew’s wife, Sarah; and their two children.

Kim

Mal Sul Kim, 81, of Kernersville, North Carolina, passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2023.
Born on August 20, 1942, in South Korea, Mal was a dedicated career welder who helped construct big ships in Pusan before bringing his skills to Winston-Salem. Mal won many awards for his dedication. He eventually retired from Varco Pruden Buildings, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and expertise.
Mal is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Sun Im Kim; his daughter, Na Hun (and Chris); and his son, Bung (and Gayle). He was preceded in death by his parents, Chun Sik and Sun Tak Kim.
One of Mal’s greatest accomplishments was when he became a US citizen in April of 1985. In his spare time, Mal enjoyed various hobbies, including fishing, karaoke, gardening, sewing, and playing Godori. These activities brought him joy and allowed him to express his creativity and passion.
Mal’s life and accomplishments will be celebrated during a service at The Salvation Army Kernersville Corps Worship and Service Center on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at 5:00 p.m.

Hicks

KERNERSVILLE – In loving remembrance, Genell Williams Hicks, aged 80, peacefully departed from this world at her residence on Saturday, November 18, 2023, enveloped in the warm embrace of her loved ones. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clyde Ray Hicks “truly, the love of her life.”
Born on August 8, 1943, in Danville, VA, to the late Rev. James Woodrow (J.W.) Williams and Evone Genell Woodell-Williams, Genell’s early years were marked by a journey alongside her parents to the various churches they served, leaving a trail of wonderful memories and cherished friendships.
Genell Hicks exuded a radiant positivity towards life, eternally remembered as one who embraced God and humanity with an open heart. Her selfless contributions extended to family, friends, community, and faith. She retired as a seasoned textile professional from Guilford Mills and, post-retirement embarked on a new career path, crafting artisan cookies as Assistant Production Manager for the Carolina Cookie Company – a role she adored alongside cherished colleagues.
Survivors include her brother, Jackie Williams; sons, James McCaslin, and Ray Hicks (Carrie); daughters, Renee Hughes (Gary), and Laura Herring; grandchildren, Tina, Brandon (Brittany), Breann (Christian), Kimberly, Kara, Daniel, Carlton (Kayla), Justin, and Tiffini; great-grandchildren, Finn, Trinity, Jasmine, Jimmie, Aadyn, Easton, Caleb, Karleigh and Kaia; special niece, Crystal; and adopted sister, Chun Cha Choe Edwards. She also leaves behind a tapestry of close family and friends that are too numerous to name.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Rev. Charles Arnold and Rev. Tim Nelson officiating. Burial will follow the service at Floral Garden Memorial Park- 1730 W. English Rd, High Point, NC 27262. Locklear

Phyllis “Nootsie” Locklear, 79, of Kernersville, NC passed away on November 1, 2023. She was born on May 8, 1944 to the late Luke and Alma Pike of Kernersville. Nootsie was a committed employee of Felice Hosiery until her retirement in 2017. Her pride and joy were her four boys whom she enjoyed raising and watching play ball through the years. She was their number one fan.
Nootsie was preceded in death by her oldest son, Charlie McCormick; grandson, Digger McCormick; sister Pamela Brewer; brother Dennis Pike; and sister-in-law Marcia Callahan Pike.
Continuing her legacy here on earth are her boys, Jeffrey (Melissa) Locklear, William Locklear (Samantha Stewart), and Gary (Audra) Locklear; grandchildren Paige (Cory) Bowers; Travis and Emilee McCormick; Ansley, Cody, Cohen, and Landon Locklear; great-grandchildren Ashlynn and Matthew Bowers; Jamari, Kaylani, and Kavian Locklear; and Haili and Blaynes McCormick; brothers Arlis Pike, Grayson (Lavern) Pike, Tony (Lori) Pike, and sister Vicky “Sissy” Pike.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 4, 2023, from 12:30 pm until 2:00 pm at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with a graveside service following at 2:30 pm at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory.

Walker

Roy Ray Walker, 85, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 17, 2023. He was born on October 11, 1938, in Wilkes County, NC, to the late Norman William Walker and Francis Royal Walker. Roy will be remembered as an incredibly hardworking man. He worked as an auto mechanic in auto sales and at U-Haul company, where he retired from. Roy also served in the United States Army and Army Reserves. Not only was he committed to his work, but he was committed to the lord. Roy spent over 60 years as a member of Woodland Baptist Church. He was devoted to his church, and his loving wife of 61 years, Annie. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Roy is preceded in death by his brothers, RD Walker, Ralph Walker, and Edward Walker; as well as a sister, Susie Haynes.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Annie Walker of the home; daughter, Sharon Young of Colfax; grandchildren, Hillary Young and Clayton Young; three great-grandchildren, Oliver, Harper, and Lilah; a brother, Jim Walker; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
A service for Roy will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Pastor Tim Gammons officiating. A visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Woodland Baptist Building Fund at 1175 Bethania-Rural Hall Rd, Rural Hall, NC 27045.

Hooker

Martha Ann Stone Hooker, 76, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 10, 2023, at Summerstone Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born to the late Neal Clinton Stone and Barbara Pruitt Stone on October 19, 1947, in Forsyth County. Martha dedicated many years of her life to working in retail. She enjoyed being home and family oriented. In her free time, she often loved to cook and spend time with her sweet cats. Although her favorite times were always spent with her son, Keith. Martha is survived by her loving son, Keith Hooker (Linda); brother, Neal Stone, Jr. (Kathy); niece, Karen Sechrist; and numerous other cousins and extended family members. Ivey

Eutice H. Ivey Sr., 87, of Kernersville, NC passed away peacefully on Friday, Nov. 10, 2023, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home after a period of declining health.
He was born Oct. 7, 1936, to the late Elra and Essie Ivey of Orrum, NC. He is preceded in death by his siblings Genevieve Floyd, Hal Ivey, Charles Ivey, Sarah Barfield and Lacy Ivey.
Eutice was a faithful member of Triad Baptist Church. Here, he enjoyed singing as a member of the choir and was the Chairman of the baptism committee. He was a former member of Glenn View Baptist Church and Woodland Baptist Church.
He was a veteran of the US Air Force and graduated from Orrum High School in 1955 where he was Salutatorian and President of his senior class. After serving his country, he spent many years working in the trucking industry.
He enjoyed coaching and refereeing soccer and was one of the founding members of the Kernersville Soccer Association. He refereed soccer until he was in his 70s. He also played on the 80-and-over Senior Games Softball Team.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Hutchings Ivey, whom he married Nov. 19, 1966. He is also survived by his children Dawn Motsinger (Chris), Harold Ivey (Amy) of Kernersville and Karen Hatley (Jason) of Boca Raton, FL; his grandchildren Garrett Motsinger, Kendall Bodford (Zack), Cameron Motsinger, Abigail Hatley, Charlie Hatley and a great grandson to be born in March of 2024; siblings James Ivey (Martha) and Rose Callahan (Jimmy) of Orrum, NC; sisters-in-law Virginia Ivey and Joanne Ivey as well as many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Triad Baptist Church with Dr. Rob Decker and Rev. Jason Hatley officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 10:45 am prior to the service at the church. Burial will be 2:00 pm Monday, November 20, 2023, in Salisbury National Cemetery.
