Trautman-Pearson

Kittie Alaina Trautman-Pearson, 54, of Kernersville, NC passed away peacefully Saturday, December 23, 2023.
A native of Flint, MI, Kittie was the wife of Dean A. Pearson and the daughter of Keith Trautman and Shannon Graves Sales, both deceased.
Kittie was a devoted and loving mother and wife. She gave selflessly to all she knew. Kittie served as a volunteer member of the Board of Directors of the Kernersville YMCA for many years. Kittie also gave thousands of hours, walked thousands of miles, and raised thousands of dollars for the Susan G Komen organization (the world’s largest nonprofit source of funding for the fight against breast cancer).
Survivors include her husband, Dean; daughter, Nina C. Pearson; son, Wade A. Pearson; sister, Karen Ackva; and mother-in-law, Korann Showalter.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00PM Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at the Holy Cross Catholic Church with Father Noah Carter officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Holy Cross Catholic Church Columbarium.

Hoover

KERNERSVILLE – Delena Carol Hoover, 83, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home after an extended hospital stay. Carol was born on January 17, 1940 in Surry County to Bishop and Helen Lundy Hall.
Carol graduated from Lowgap High School, and Forsyth Technical Institute. She was a proud employee of Piedmont / USAirways for 30 years. After retiring, she volunteered as a teacher with WS Forsyth County Schools. Carol liked traveling, reading, and history. She inherited her grandmother’s green thumb and tended a large flower garden which she used to create beautiful floral arrangements. Carol enjoyed making a welcoming home and setting a beautiful table. She loved fashion and the hunt for the elusive size 5-1/2 shoe.
Carol and her husband, Richard, had an unmatched love and devotion to one another. Her goal to be married as long as her grandparents was achieved when she and Richard celebrated their 63rd anniversary on November 27th this year.
She was a long-standing member at Sedge Garden United Methodist Church and the Manuel Sunday School Class, whose members she loved dearly.
Carol’s mantra was “We have so much to be thankful for” and we are so very thankful to have had her in our lives. The love, positivity, and generosity she exhibited every single day will continue through us as we honor her memory.
In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her sister, Lephon Jeremias; and brother, Lundy Hall.
Surviving are her husband, Richard Hoover; daughter, Vickie; grandson, Matthew and his fiancée, Savannah and her daughter, Riley; two brothers, Johnny Hall (wife Molene) and Jimmy Hall (wife, Jo); and her cousin, Pat.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 31, 2023 at Sedge Garden United Methodist Church with Rev. Dan Hester officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Church Fellowship Hall.

Mattingly

After a painful battle with cancer, Maureen Kae Mattingly, 75, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2023 surrounded by family and loved ones at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She cherished her roles as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother (Gramma). She had a deep faith, always feeling God’s love and care, and didn’t fear death. Kae cultured friendships wherever she went. She nurtured those friendships and was intentional about maintaining them.
She was born August 1, 1948 in Louisville, Kentucky to Jack and Ruth Adair. Kae is preceded in death by her parents, sister-in-law Mary Jean “Jeanie” Banta, niece Miranda Grim, grandson Max Raderer, and great-nephew Lucas Grim.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Allen Mattingly; sons Michael Joseph and Christopher Allen Mattingly (Karen); brother Barry Adair; brother-in-law Thomas Gary Mattingly; grandchildren Allyson and Joseph Mattingly, Cary and Cate Raderer; nephews Andrew Adair (Kurt), Eric Adair (Paula), Brandon Adair, and Hunter Grim; nieces Sarah Patel (Chanton), Sidney and Paige Adair, Lindsey and Mallory Mattingly; great-nieces Emma, Kira, and Khloe Patel, Savana Adair, Sarah Jane Grim, Olivia Beasley, and great-great-niece Nova Hayes Grim; great-nephews Zach Adair, Garret Patel, Liam Greene, and Evan Mason.
Kae knew she wanted to be a teacher at a very young age. Teaching became her vocation. She gave it her all and reveled in the success of her students. She obtained a Masters in Education from the University of Louisville and taught in the Catholic school system for 30 years; St Lawrence in Louisville, KY and Our Lady of Mercy in Winston-Salem, NC, ending her career as a PRT at Walkertown Elementary. She loved her church, feeding the birds, cross stitch, reading, sending birthday cards, games of all kinds, jokes, travel, bowling, biking, hiking, pickleball, Silver Sneakers, and dancing. She also was an avid and competitive card player. As a UofL Cardinal fan Kae enjoyed watching all the UofL ballgames.
Kae was an elder and choir member at her church (First Presbyterian Church of Kernersville). She authored life stories in a column called “Conversations with Kae”. Even directing the Children’s Choir for some years. She loved her Bible Study on Saturday mornings, her Book Club, and retired Walkertown Teachers group. She volunteered in the community with Meals on Wheels, Shepherd’s Center, and Samaritan Ministries.
So many people have been touched by her heartfelt caring for those in need of loving, tender attention. Kae had goals of visiting all the National Parks and every state capitol – and had gotten to more than half of each. She loved entertaining and hosting at home with Derby Parties, Mystery Parties, Bunco Parties, Ski Club Parties, “Adair Christmas in July”, and birthday and retirement parties.
A visitation will be held from 4pm to 7pm on Wednesday, December 27th, 2023 at Hayworth-Miller in Kernersville. Church (First Presbyterian of Kernersville) services will be on December 28th at 11 am with a celebration of life to happen at a later date. Please check the Hayworth-Miller website for updates.

Kribs

Joan Kay Davis Kribs, 66, of Kernersville N.C., formerly of Greensboro N.C., went home to be with her Lord on February 22, 2023 surrounded by her immediate family who will miss her every day until they are reunited with her in Heaven. Joan was preceded in death by her parents Ray Davis of King N.C. and Silvia Hayes Davis Robertson of Greensboro N.C., and one brother Michael Ray Davis, formerly of Greensboro N.C. Joan is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Robert Kribs, and her son Sean Kribs (Michelle Webb).
Joan was a 1974 graduate of Page High School in Greensboro N.C. and had attended Elon College in Elon N.C. Joan was a proud member of the Phi Mu Fraternity at Elon College and attended U.N.C.G in Greensboro N.C. She proudly graduated from Brookstone College of Business in Greensboro N.C.
Joan was a lovely person inside and out who loved Jesus, people and hard work. Whether she was working as a long-time wait staff member at Wong’s Restaurant in Greensboro N.C. or at a school cafeteria in Forsyth County N.C. or as a receptionist at a doctor’s office in Greensboro N.C. or doing a medical student internship for Guilford Child Development in High Point N.C., she always worked hard and did her very best.
But the job that Joan loved the best and took the most pride in was raising her son Sean and being his teacher while Home Schooling him until he graduated from Kernersville Christian Academy in Kernersville N.C.
Joan fought and won her ten year battle with breast cancer with dignity and grace. She was an amazing woman and will be missed by all who knew her.
Joan was a steadfast follower of Jesus Christ, whom she prayed to and studied His Word daily. It was not uncommon while she was out shopping that she would walk up to someone she did not know and tell them something that she believed Jesus had asked her to tell them. Joan was a member of Faith Christian Center Fellowship in Kernersville N.C.
The family wishes to thank everyone who prayed for Joan over the years. It meant so much to her. And to her doctors, nurses and staff for all they did for her. She spoke kindly of you all.

Hancock

WINSTON SALEM – Mrs. Josephine “Diane” Norton Hancock, 74, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 24 at Westchester Harbour Assisted Living. She was known as Diane to family and friends, and was born February 19, 1949 in Dillon County, S.C. to John C. and Violet Theola Norton. She grew up in Little Rock, S.C. and dropped out of high school in the 11th grade. Many years later, married and pregnant with her third child, Diane went back and finished high school, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary education from Francis Marion University in Florence, S.C. After retirement, Diane found her true joy in life when she began to keep children in her home. She also kept nursery faithfully for 25 years at Triad Baptist Church in Kernersville, where she was a member.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister Annie Rowell. She is survived by her loving husband, Earl Hancock; her children, John Hatchell (Tracie), Holly Fisher (Bob), Tina Shull (Mark), and Shaun Hatchell (Jamie); her brother, Wayne Norton; her grandchildren, Brady, Brooke, Blake, Derek, Hagen, Reid, Dillon, Ella, and Eli; great grandson, Jordan; and honorary granddaughters, Taylor and Morgan.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 30, 2023 at Triad Baptist Church with Dr. Rob Decker officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Gur Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Wodarczyk

KERNERSVILLE – Donna Marie Gliwa Wodarczyk, 64, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at Kernersville Medical Center. Donna was born on February 17, 1959 in Philadelphia, PA to Bernard and Eleanor Parker Gliwa. Growing up in Philadelphia offered many opportunities for ice skating, which Donna enjoyed greatly as a child. She enjoyed crafting, Disney and spending time with family. Christmas was Donna’s favorite holiday, and always looked forward to decorating the house while watching Christmas movies.
Donna was all about taking care of others. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
In addition to her parents, Donna was preceded in death by a life-long friend, Karen McHale.
Surviving are her husband, Rob Wodarczyk; her daughter, Lauren Sell (James); her son, Robbie Wodarczyk (Shelby); two grandsons, Austin and Landon Sell; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A funeral mass will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, December 29, 2023 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Father Noah Carter officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. Weavil

Kernersville – Mrs. Jo-Anne Harris Weavil, 74, passed away Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Universal Healthcare in Fuquay Varina. She was born October 16, 1949, in Onslow County, North Carolina to the late Garland Luther Harris, Sr. and Ida Bell Harris. Jo-Anne attended East Carolina University. She was a loving wife who loved her family and was kind to everyone she met.
She left to cherish her memory; her loving husband, Nathan Richard Weavil, sister, Jeanne Gillenwater (Dean), sister-in-law, Susan W. Lester (Michael) and many special nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 1:00 pm Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Elder E.W. Hooven officiating. Burial will follow in Saints Delight Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Kernersville. The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 12:45 pm prior to the service. Venable

Kernersville- Mrs. Brenda Kay Walker Venable, 81 passed away Saturday, December 23, 2023, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born April 28, 1942, in Forsyth County, the daughter of Walter and Viola Warren Walker. A member of Waughtown Baptist Church, she was a homemaker and had worked at Lucia Clothing. Brenda loved gardening and taking care of her plants both inside and out. She was a giving person who loved to have conversations both at the table and on her back porch. She also enjoyed getting together with family, playing card games, and laughing. She was the glue that held our family together. Brenda is preceded in death by her parents and five siblings. Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Roger Venable; her two daughters, Debbie Ijames (Dale) of Kernersville and Teresa Craddock (Brad) of Kernersville; four grandchildren, Dustin Ijames (Shelby), Dacia Guerrie (Jeff), Aaron Craddock and Ashlyn Craddock; two great grandchildren, Delaney Ijames and Bailey Ijames; a sister, Patricia Walker of Kernersville and a brother Jimmy Walker of Winston-Salem. A funeral will be held at 1:00 PM Friday December 29, 2023, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Rev. Terry Venable officiating. A private burial will follow. Iverson

TEXAS – Betty J. Iverson, 89, passed away on Wednesday December 6, 2023, at Medical City Arlington in Arlington Texas in the company of her two sons. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe and Sadie Ham; by her husband of 56 years, Ralph; and by her sisters, Mareen and Mabel.
Betty was born and raised in Ashe County, North Carolina. After graduating high school, Betty worked for the telephone company as an operator in Kernersville, NC. Betty and Ralph met in North Carolina and wed on August 24th, 1962. After marriage, Betty became a devoted homemaker for her husband and their two sons. Betty, Ralph, and their boys lived all over the country until the family moved to Texas in 1976 and never left, but a piece of Betty’s heart always remained in North Carolina. When Ralph retired in the early nineties the couple moved to a beautiful house on the shores of Richland Chambers Reservoir outside Corsicana. Betty and Ralph enjoyed hosting friends and family at the lake house; their children loved to visit with their families. Every summer Betty looked forward to the hummingbirds returning to the numerous feeders waiting for them on the lake house patio. Betty developed a strong network of friendships in Corsicana, she enjoyed playing Bingo with friends in her later years. Betty was a passionate crocheter, she made and gave away many afghans, potholders and other homemade craft items over the years. Betty was an animal lover; she cared for and loved many family dogs, cats, birds and other creatures over the years.
Betty dearly loved her parents, her siblings, her two children, her three grandchildren, her many nieces and nephews, and her extended family. Betty was kind and friendly to everyone and loved to talk about family and listen to others share their stories.
Betty is survived by her two sons, John and Bob; grandchildren, Ryan, Evan and Hannah, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Betty will be buried in Kernersville, North Carolina and will rest next to her mom and sisters whom she loved with all her heart.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 30, 2023 at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel.

Shapiro

Catherine Elizabeth Stewart Shapiro, 75, passed away on Wednesday, December 6 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, NC. Known as Cathy to many, she was born in Forsyth County on December 26, 1947 to the late Raymond Franklin and Helen Juanita Pardon Stewart. Before retiring, she worked in home health for many years because of her love for the elderly. She also loved to work in the yard and grow a variety of flowers and plants outside her home, having one of the best yards in the neighborhood. She was a lifelong UNC Tarheel fan, Nascar fan of Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt, Jr., and spent much of her retirement maintaining and enjoying her family’s vacation place at High Rock Lake, fondly known as Cripple Creek. Never meeting a stranger, she easily formed special friendships with neighbors and restaurant workers at the establishments she and her husband frequented. However, there were none she cherished more than her two granddaughters, who lovingly referred to her as Nana.
In addition to her parents, Cathy was preceded in death by her only brother Buford Ronald Stewart, only sister Carolyn Yvonne Stewart Snyder, and many uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Cathy is survived by her husband Richard Louis Shapiro of 56 years of Kernersville, her daughter Tanya Dellacona (husband Greg) of Kernersville, granddaughter Morgan Dellacona of Charlotte, granddaughter Ashlyn Dellacona of Wilmington, sister-in-law Suzanne Shapiro (late husband Jay) of Atlanta, GA, sister-in-law Cathy Stewart (late husband Ronald) of Lexington, nephew Randall Synder (wife Kelly) of Lexington, niece Michelle Land (husband Leland) of High Point, special cousin Chester Clark of Lewisville, special niece Donna McNeely (husband Allen) of Clemmons, and numerous other family members.
A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, December 16th at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Winston-Salem. Pastor Dr. Danny Hemric of Faith Baptist Tabernacle will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Hayworth-Miller. The family also encourages anyone who attends to wear red/burgundy to honor Cathy, as that was her favorite color.
Cathy’s family wants to especially recognize the kind and compassionate care of her Novant medical team in Kernersville, Adoration Home Health, Griswold Home Care, and Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. They also wish to extend heartfelt gratitude to family, special neighbors, and friends from The Summit Church who supported them in immeasurable ways during Cathy’s brief cancer journey.
