Wildcat Café

The Wildcat Café at Kernersville Elementary School (KES) opened on November 17. The Wildcat Café was started by Claire Slate, the speech teacher at KES. Slate approached the KES Principal, Teresa Rose about giving students an opportunity to exercise their communication skills through a mobile coffee and snack cart. Holy Cross Orthodox Church

Holy Cross Orthodox Church in Kernersville moved one big step forward in being completed on Tuesday morning. In this case, the big step was the placement of a gold 8,500-pound fiberglass dome on the new church building, located at 1320 Masten Drive.

Light Up The Night

On December 2, Oak Ridge is hosting Light Up the Night to welcome the holiday season. The event will be held at Oak Ridge Town Park from 2pm until 7pm. The rain date for the event is December 3. The Light Up the Night event is sponsored by Ramilya Siegel of Keller Williams Realty and put on by the Oak Ridge Special Events Committee.

Chairman Recognition

On Monday, November 13, the Kernersville Chamber of Commerce held the 55th Annual Banquet at the Kernersville Fire Department, Station 42.
At the event, awards and recognitions were given out to community members. Among those was the Chairman Recognition for Jimmy Flythe, director for the West Region of Government and Community Relations at Duke Energy Carolinas.

BOA meeting

The Kernersville Board of Aldermen set the date for two public hearings and discussed a variety of road related issues at their November meeting.
The BOA set the date for a public hearing for a Voluntary Contiguous Annexation of 8.618 acres of property located at 1825, 1827 ad 1831 NC Highway South for their Dec. 12 meeting at 6:30 p.m. The BOA also set the date for a public hearing for a Voluntary Contiguous Annexation of 3.98 acres of property located at 1385 Crews Farm Road. Recreations & Events Center construction

An extensive project long in the making is well underway and may be completed faster than expected. Construction of the Kernersville Recreation & Event Center, an $18.3 million project that will provide a myriad of sports, recreation and other options and is expected to provide a huge economic impact for Kernersville, is moving quickly. The Kernersville Recreation & Event Center will be at the corner of Union Cross Road and Shields Road next to the Ivey M. Redmon Sports Complex.

Kernersville Christmas Parade

Get ready to immerse yourself in a whirlwind of festivity as Kernersville gears up for its highly anticipated annual Christmas Parade. With vibrant floats, lively music and the spirit of the season in the air, the town will come alive with celebrations and merry gatherings for this holiday season.
The Kernersville Christmas Parade is less than a week away. It will take place on Sunday, Dec. 3 from 2:30 to 4 p.m.

Walkertown Christmas Parade

The Walkertown Christmas Parade will be on held on Saturday, December 9. The parade starts at 1pm and will be held on Main Street and Sullivantown Road.
The Walkertown Civic Club sponsors the parade to mark the start of the Christmas season as well as to bring the community together.

Food drive

The Rotary Club of Kernersville Satellite Club will host a food drive from now until Wednesday, December 20th.
“Kernersville Rotary Satellite Club wanted to do a service project to help our neighbors, so we partnered with the community and morning Rotary Club to ask for help with this,” said Taylor Thornton, incoming president for the Kernersville Rotary Satellite Club. “We asked businesses to host a bin and advertise that they are collecting food in hopes of refilling the shelves at the food pantry.” For more, see the Tuesday, November 28, 2023 edition.

Key Volunteer

On Monday, November 13, the Kernersville Chamber of Commerce held the 55th Annual Banquet at the Kernersville Fire Rescue Department, Station 42.
At the event, awards were given out, including the Citizen of the Year Award, Key Volunteer of the Year, The Arnold G. King Community Distinguished Service Award, Joan and Lee Hope Impact Award and the Lawrence E. Pope Economic Development Award.
“The Key Volunteer Award dates back to 1995, recognizing a person or persons who is of significant assistance to the Chamber, it’s mission and particularly in program development,” Chris Comer, president of the Kernersville Chamber of Commerce said. “He’s a yes person who is happy to help in any way possible. He’s not afraid to take on new and big things, all while leading a team of very important people that keep Kernersville safe.”
The 2023 Key Volunteer of the Year Award was presented to Dan Wemyss, who serves as a lieutenant for the Kernersville Police Department (KPD) Patrol Services Bureau. He has worked in law enforcement for over 25 years, with 23 of those years working with the KPD.
