Joem Dwiggins Phillips died Monday morning Nov.28 2016 at the age of 80. She was at her home in Santee SC. after a brief illness.
Mrs. Phillips was born in Winston-Salem on April 24 1936. She was raised on Vance Road on the family farm by her parents
Walter Vance Dwiggins and Marie Crews Dwiggins with her sisters Nancy D. Harris (deceased) and Sibyl Kirkham of Charleston SC. While at Kernersville High School she married Robert (Buddy) Phillips (deceased) and together they had four children.
Robert Dale Phillips Jr. of Kernersville, Sarah Joem Bradley of Charleston SC, Laura Marie Doyle of Burnsville and Samuel Vance Phillips (deceased.)
Mrs. Phillips returned to college in her mid 30s and received her BS degree from Greensboro College. She attended Bowman Grey School of Medicine and was certified as a Physician Assistant. She also obtained her Masters Degree from the Citadel. She worked as a Physician Assistant in Boston MA and Charleston SC.
She and her husband enjoyed retirement by summering in Maine and Campobello Island Canada. There she enjoyed photography and writing. Her book of poetry is titled A Voice Alone.
There will be no funeral service. We hope her family and friends will remember her in their own way and hold her in their hearts with love.
