Grandparents scam

A Kernersville couple is hoping their story will help others in the community avoid becoming a victim to phone scammers who pretend to be a family member in distress.
The pair reported receiving a suspicious phone call from an individual claiming to be their grandson on Tuesday morning. A few hours later, the couple received a second call and before the day was over, they had gotten a total of four phone calls. On Wednesday morning, they received three more calls. Unfortunately, there are times scammers make off with hundreds, if not thousands of dollars from unsuspecting victims who truly believe they are helping a family member in crisis. They oftentimes ask victims to purchase gift cards.
