School board calendar

The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools (WS/FCS) Board of Education approved a calendar for the 2023-24 school year during their meeting on Tuesday night. Unlike some districts in the state, the WS/FCS calendar for 2023-24 is in accordance with state law initially established in 2004. The calendar for the 2023-24 school year is very similar to the calendar for this school year.
The first day of class for students for the 2023-24 school year is Aug. 28. The school board voted unanimously to approve the new calendar. This opening date for the next school year is in accordance with a state law that was passed in 2004 and later amended in 2011 that calls for the state’s school districts to start their school year on the Monday closest to Aug. 26. The last day of the school year, barring an excess of school day cancellations, will be June 7. For more, see the Saturday/Sunday, January 28 & 29, 2023 edition.
