North Main Street development

The Kernersville Planning Board took up a somewhat controversial rezoning case and re-examined the Kernersville Development Plan Land Use Plan (KDPLUP) at the monthly virtual meeting on Jan. 11. Planning Board members had differing opinions on the matter.
Essentially, for the Planning Board to approve the project in question, the Planning Board had to either change the KDPLUP for an area on North Main Street in order for a site plan to be approved, or make an exception to the Land Use Plan for this one project. The Planning Board then voted to make an exception to the KDPLUP for this one project. The board voted 6-3 to deny an exception in this case. The board then voted to approve the site plan if the Kernersville Board of Aldermen approves rezoning in this area. The board unanimously agreed to approve the site plan if the aldermen approve the rezoning. The BOA’s next meeting will be on Feb. 2.
