Oak Ridge – Mr. Larry Bryan Hicks, 66, passed away Monday, September 28, 2015 at Moses Cone Hospital. Larry was born on October 5, 1948 in Guilford County to Terry and Rosa Lee Stevens Hicks. Larry retired from the Guilford County School System. He was a loving and supportive husband, father, grandfather and friend. Larry could fix anything and made himself available to anyone who needed his help! He enjoyed fishing, golfing, gardening and woodworking, all with a keen ability to keep his appearance top notch! His greatest love was being his grandchildren’s biggest fan of their softball and baseball games!
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by eight brothers and one sister.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Nicki Hicks; two daughters, Robin Holland (Steven) and Kelly McDonald (Glenn); three grandchildren, Stevie Holland, Grayson and Travis McDonald; his mother-in-law, Mazelle Brown; one brother, Willie Hicks; three sisters, Marie Smith, Pat Ukele and Betty Mabe; and a special nephew, Jerry Smith.
A funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Oak Ridge United Methodist Church with Rev. Karen Kurtz officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
Following the committal, the family will gather in the Church Fellowship Hall to celebrate Larry’s birthday and would love to have all those who can, join them for cake and coffee!
The family extends a special thanks to the staff of Moses Cone Medical ICU, especially Dr. McQuaid, Chris, Liza and Abby for their loving care. Memorials may be made to Oak Ridge United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 2424 Oak Ridge Road, Oak Ridge, NC 27310.
