faggMrs. Jacqueline “Jackie” Fagg, 90, passed away October 1, 2016. She was born in Forsyth Co. on August 27, 1926 to the late Coy Wheeler and Vera Smith Swaim. Jackie graduated from Sedge Garden High School in 1944. She will be remembered as a doting mother and passionate grandmother.
She was employed by and played basketball for Hanes Hosiery winning an AAU National Championship in 1951. Jackie achieved All-American status twice in 1949 and 1951. She also won the National Free Throw Championship in 1949. She retired from competitive basketball when she married and began a family with the love of her life, Jack Fagg. Jackie never lost her zeal for sports throughout her lifetime and held a special fervor for UNC Athletics…particularly Tar Heel Basketball. She was very active in her church and the Kernersville Senior Center where she participated in line dancing for 13 years.
Jackie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jack Neal Fagg, and brother, Ted Swaim.
Surviving are two sons, Hans Neal Fagg and wife Shoandra, of Columbia, SC, and Barry Smith Fagg and wife Carol, of Winston Salem and two grandsons, Alexander McNeal Fagg of Raleigh, NC and Wesley Costner Fagg of Chapel Hill, NC.
The funeral service will be conducted 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Saints Delight Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Gene Hogan and Elder David Hogan officiating. Burial will immediately follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning one hour prior at the church. Memorials may be directed to Saints Delight Primitive Baptist Church, c/o Terry Motsinger, 270 Motsinger Drive, Winston Salem, NC 27107.
