nelsonHigh Point – Brett Anthony Nelson, 21 passed away Monday September 26, 2016 at the Naval Hospital in Yokosuka, Japan. The cause of death is still unknown and currently under investigation by the Navy (NCIS). Brett was born May 8, 1995 at the Naval Hospital in Jacksonville, FL to Darrin and Geannette Nelson.
Brett was baptized and confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at age eight (June, 2003). He earned the Rank of Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America as a member of troop 718 of the Grand Canyon Council in Arizona (April, 2011). Brett graduated from Red Mountain High School in Mesa, Arizona (May, 2013), lettering in both cross country and track. In July of 2014 Brett enlisted in the U.S. Navy and graduated from the U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman School in December, 2014. In February of 2016 he graduated from the U.S. Navy Radiology /X-Ray Technician School and immediately reported for Duty at the Naval Hospital in Yokosuka, Japan.
Brett is survived by his parents Darrin and Geannette of High Point; his sister Renee and her husband Keith of Statesville; twin brother Bruce, currently attending college in Arizona; his grandmother Nadine, grandfather Max; Aunts: Geraldine, Griselda, Nancy, and Jennifer; Uncles: Max, Chuck, Harvey, Gilbert and Jeff who all reside outside of the state of North Carolina.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00AM, Saturday, October 8, 2016 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Colfax Ward with Bishop Scott Tucker officiating. Interment will follow in the church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
