Deadline for candidate filing

Beginning at noon on Dec. 4, candidates for the Nov. 5, 2024 election started officially filing for election. The deadline to file for office was on Friday. The primaries for the 2024 election will be held on March 5.
There are a number of high-profile ongoing races, such as the race for North Carolina governor. Because of term limits, incumbent Gov. Roy Cooper cannot seek reelection in 2024, which will result in a new person in the state’s highest office for the first time since 2016.
