The local community has rallied in support of a family who suffered a tragic loss earlier this week with the death of Landon Munn, a 17-year-old student from Walnut Cove who attended Walkertown High School.
According to a news release from the N.C. Highway Patrol, troopers responded to the report of a crash on Sardis Church Road near Lindsay Bridge Road in Rockingham County at approximately 7:26 p.m. on Sunday evening, July 10.
Investigators reported that the driver, identified as Munn, was traveling west on Sardis Church Road in a 1999 Chevrolet SUV when Munn went off the road to the right. Munn reportedly overcorrected, causing the SUV to go left of center and overturn in a ditch.
Two passengers, both 17, suffered serious non life-threatening injuries and were taken to Moses H. Cone Hospital in Greensboro. Investigators with the N.C. Highway Patrol said no one in the SUV was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and all were thrown from the vehicle.
Munn passed away from his injuries on Monday morning, July 11, prompting an outpouring of grief and support for his friends and family, many of whom have strong connections to the Kernersville community. Munn was active at a local Jeep group, which has now organized a memorial fundraiser in honor of Munn planned at the Kernersville VFW later this month.
The “Landon Munn Memorial Show N Shine” will be held Sunday, July 31 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at Kernersville VFW Post 5352, located at 618 Edgewood Street, hosted by Kernersville Jeep Nights.
Several fundraisers have also been set up in Landon Munn’s name at www.gofundme.com. For more, see the Thursday, July 14, 2022 edition.
