John Jay Bingham, 85, passed away July 4, 2015.
Funeral Services celebrating his life will be held 3:00PM Tuesday July 7, 2015 at Main Street United Methodist Church Chapel with Dr. Claude Kaylor and Rev. Dale Hilton officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
A native of Watauga County, John was the son of the late Kenova Virginia Morrell and John McCoy Bingham. He was married to the former Joan Phillips in 1954. He served his country with the United States Army during the Korean War. John was retired from the Kernersville YMCA as the Executive Director having served from 1976 until 1991. He spent a lot of enjoyable moments with his friends as they golfed at Pine Knolls and Maple Leaf Golf Clubs. He would shoot his age, and below, on numerous occasions.
John was a longtime member of Main Street United Methodist Church where he was a Choir Member, Sunday School Teacher, and served as Chairperson of the Executive Board.
In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by his son Kirk Philip Bingham, sisters Peggy Amburn, Patsy Hodges, and brother Ellis Bingham.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years Joan P. Bingham of the home; son Brent Bingham and Nancy of Boone; sisters Betty Wright, Janet Moretz, Barbara Townsend, Marjorie Townsend, and Mary Jo Pritchard; brothers Mack Bingham and Danny Bingham; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
The family will visit with friends immediately following the service in the Chapel of the church.
