Bennett Alonzo “Lonzie” Bennett, 88, passed away January 15, 2016.
Graveside Funeral Services celebrating his life will be held 12:00PM Monday January 18, 2016 at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will visit with friends from 5:00PM until 8:00PM Sunday evening at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home.
He was born February 27, 1927 in Stokes County. Lonzie was the son of the late Pearlie Nelson and Andrew Jackson Bennett. He served his country as a Sergeant with the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired from the Container Corporation following forty years of service. His passion surely was his farming, gardening, and peddling his goods to friends and family at the Kernersville Farmers Market. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him, especially his companions “Gracie”, “Sasha”, “Chase”, and “Gabby”.
In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by his sister Hallie Mabe.
Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-five years Flaxie Mabe Bennett of the home; daughter Peggy “PJ” Bennett Cook and Carl of Kernersville; sisters Mamie Rierson of Kernersville, Margie Bullins of Walnut Cove, Adelene Lewis and Charles of Kernersville, and Lucille Wall of Lawsonville; brothers Swanson Bennett and Dora, and Norman Bennett and Rexine all of Kernersville; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
