Water discoloration

Water customers who live in downtown Winston-Salem and as far east as Walkertown and Kernersville may notice water pressure fluctuations or temporary discoloration in their tap water starting this week when the water tank at 905 Chestnut St. in Winston-Salem is taken out of service for rehabilitation.
Work is scheduled to begin on Friday, June 5 at 8:30 a.m. to repaint the tank. It is anticipated the tank will be returned to service in July. Potential areas that could be affected are downtown Winston-Salem east of U.S. 52 and north of Salem Parkway, as well as eastern Forsyth County customers in Walkertown and Kernersville.
Citizens who experience discolored water that appears red, brown or yellow should refrain from washing clothes to avoid possible staining of light-colored clothing. Although the water may appear discolored, it remains safe for drinking, cooking and bathing.
