Stanley

Robert Lee Stanley Jr. went to be with his Lord on November 5, 2015. Known to many as Bob, RL, and Stan, he was born in Reidsville, NC on October 21, 1926 to Robert Lee Stanley and Edna Bell Diamond. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the US Air Force and took part in the Korean Conflict after which he enjoyed a 21 year career in the military, and was stationed in many locations around the world including Japan, Germany, Minnesota, Mississippi, Kentucky, North Carolina and Florida. He continued to work after military retirement and was employed by and retired from Wachovia Bank.
Always leading his family on exciting adventures in the locations in which they lived, he was an energetic and confident Father and husband. He was an avid gardener and could produce an abundant crop whether from a large garden or a patio planter. He was an active Church member, Deacon and Representative for the First Baptist Church of Kernersville, and volunteered at the Beeson Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department and the Shepherd’s Center. He always assumed leadership roles in everything in which he participated.
He is preceded in death by his brother William (Bill) Stanley of Reidsville, and is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Jeanette, four children; Debi Saleeby (Gary) of Chapel Hill, Terry Stanley (Terri) of Kernersville, John Stanley (Maggie) of Kernersville and Teresa Stephens (Darrell) of Kernersville and their families consisting of six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at the First Baptist church of Kernersville at 1:30 on Sunday November 8, 2015 with a short visitation beginning at 1:00 PM. Burial will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Winston-Salem. In lieu of flowers the family requests donation to the American Heart Association.
