Lauretta Ilene Smith, 85, went home to be with the Lord September 21, 2015.
Funeral Services celebrating her life will be held 3:00PM Thursday September 24, 2015 at Triad Baptist Church with Pastor Dr. Rob Decker officiating. Interment will be in the National Veteran’s Cemetery in Salisbury.
A native of Indiana, Lauretta was the daughter of the late Bertha Lundt and Albert John Smith. In addition to her parents, she also was preceded in death by her siblings Geraldine Fiedler, Vera Bridge and Norman Smith.
Lauretta served in South Africa as a Missionary, with her late husband Rev. Adlie Barefoot from 1953 until 1960. She later would work as a Nurse until she retired and continued to work as a Private Duty Nurse as she was able. A longtime member of Triad Baptist Church, she served as a pianist, organist, accordionist, Sunday School teacher, as well as numerous other capacities as she served her Lord.
Survivors include her loving husband of 44 years Alton Blount Smith of the home; daughters Mary Powell and Jim of California, Marie Farmer of New Hampshire, Patricia Espinoza of Florida, Vicky Arnold of Kernersville, Grace Hooper of Charlotte, Reita Murray of Kernersville, and Rachel Feldman and Murray of Welcome; sons A.B. Smith, Jr. and Penny of Kernersville, John Barefoot and Carol of Georgia, and Charles Smith of Washington; twenty-two grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
The family will visit with friends from 2:00PM until time for the service at the church on Thursday.
