Sapp

Sapp

Gerald Wayne Sapp, Jr. won his hard-fought battle with Parkinson’s Disease and transitioned to his heavenly home on August 15, 2021. Gerald was born on June 9, 1952, to Evelyn Patterson Sapp and Gerald Wayne Sapp Sr. and was their only child. He lived in Kernersville, North Carolina his entire life until recently moving to Arbor Acres United Methodist Retirement Community due to his declining health.
He was a proud Eagle Scout and dedicated his life to the service of others, never asking for anything in return. He served as the assistant fire chief at Beeson’s Crossroads Fire Department for several years and most recently was a volunteer at CareNet Counseling. In addition, he was a dedicated usher at Main Street United Methodist Church and was proud to continue his service of ushering at Arbor Acres.
Gerald was co-owner of Triad Fire Inc. for over 40 years, proudly selling Grumman and Pierce fire apparatus to departments all over North Carolina. In that time, he developed many life-long friendships with people across the emergency services industry. He loved traveling to the far corners of the state and knew nearly every fire chief and town manager by name.
More than anything else, Gerald loved his family. In 1977, Gerald was introduced to Terri through a mutual friend. The two quickly fell in love and were married for 43 years. In addition to his wife, Gerald is survived by his son Daniel (wife Shaunna) and daughter Meredith McCay (husband Kyle) and was so proud of all their accomplishments. He was so excited about his newest role in life, Grandpa to Willa Sapp, Braelyn McCay, and Rhett McCay.
Gerald lived a life of integrity and loved unconditionally. He looked out for others more than himself, even as his health failed. He always valued the fellowship he had with so many friends, and he never met a stranger. Gerald was always willing to stop and help others, and he left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Visitation with the family will be held at Main Street UMC in Kernersville on Thursday, August 19, from 5 pm until 6 pm. Masks and social distancing will be required out of respect for those most vulnerable to COVID-19.
Gerald’s family is thankful for the love and support they received over the last several years, especially from their church family and the community at Arbor Acres.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorials be directed to the Connection Campaign at Main Street UMC or to Arbor Acres United Methodist Retirement Community.
