Porter WINSTON-SALEM-Helen Lucille Wells Porter, 83, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born in Grayson Co., VA to the late Claude Alexander and Stella Emma Parsons Wells. Lucille was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church in Kernersville and the J.C. Gross Sunday school class. She moved to Richmond, VA at the young age of 5 years old. She attended John Marshall High School, moved to South Charleston, WV and was in the graduating class of 1950 from South Charleston High School. Lucille then pursued her nursing career and graduated in 1953 from Charleston General Nursing program and then earned her nursing home administration license in the 70’s. Having worked in the nursing field for 50 years, she retired from Arbor Acres in 2003. Lucille lived in VA, and WV but spent the majority of her adult life in Forsyth Co. She loved traveling and being involved with girl scouting, but most of all she loved those Atlanta Braves. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Weaver Clive Porter; and a brother, Dixie Wells. Surviving are her children, Mark (Lori) Porter and Kathy Porter; grandchildren, Alexander and Ryan Porter; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Main Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Rick Carter, Dr. Claude Kayler and Rev. Dale Hilton officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Main Street United Methodist Church Building Up Reaching Out, 306 S. Main St. Kernersville, NC 27284. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Kerner Ridge, Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, her caregivers Susan and Kay at Home Loving Senior Care, and Dr. Rosen at Ardmore Family practice. Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the Porter family.
