Lexington – Yohonna Christopher Owens, 88, passed away June 27, 2015 from complications following a stroke. Graveside funeral services will be held 11:00AM Saturday July 4, 2015 at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory in Kernersville, conducted by Jay Boyce, Pastor of Oaklawn Baptist Church where Mrs. Owens was a member.
Mrs. Owens was born in Spartanburg County, SC, a daughter of the late John Thomas Christopher and Annie Edwards Christopher. She is survived by her daughters, Maryln Owens Pettit (Roy) and Latha Owens Hafer of Lexington, NC; granddaughter, Elizabeth Jean Pettit Crew(Brad); great-grandchildren, Alan and Ryan Crew of Mechanicsville, VA; sister, Clina Christopher Hayes of Columbia, SC; special niece, Jean Rogers Cooley of Stuart, FL; sister-in-law, Janice G. Christopher of North Augusta, SC; several nieces and nephews; her best buddy and “sister”, Helen Wills Shore Cox of Kernersville, NC.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Lee Owens, whom she was married to for 46 years; brother, Zane Donald Christopher Sr. of North Augusta, SC; sister, Marcelane Christopher Murphree of Spartanburg Co, SC.
Memorials may be directed to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Center, Winston-Salem, NC. The family would like to send special thanks to the Hospice Team who cared for Mrs. Owens as well as Dr. Charles Stinson, Palliative Care Unit, Novant Medical Center, Winston-Salem, NC and to the many friends who encouraged and supported the family throughout many months.
