MooneyPeggy Murrell Mooney passed away Saturday August 6, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 6, 1929 in Danville, Va. to the late Silas David Murrell and Eula Ferguson Murrell. Peggy was also preceded in death by her husband, James William Mooney, a step-mother Lillie Murrell and two sisters Alossie Knowles, Gail Eagle and a brother Dillard Murrell .
The family will celebrate her life at a private graveside service.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Jeanne Manuel and husband Doug of Kernersville, NC; Jennifer Tierney and husband Chuck of Kernersville, NC; Two sons, Jim Mooney and wife Mary Lou of Greensboro, NC and Scott Mooney and wife Jill of Kernersville, NC, 8 granddaughters, 1 grandson and multiple great-grandchildren; Brother Ted Murrell and wife Becky of Reidsville, NC and multiple nieces and nephews.
Peggy grew up in Reidsville, NC where she attended high school and later attended Meredith College. She met her husband, Jim while he was playing professional baseball. They began their married life in Oak Ridge, NC. They made Kernersville their home in 1960.
Peggy was a member of First Baptist Church in Kernersville, NC for over 35 years.
Before her illness she enjoyed a very active life, spending time at the beach with family and friends. Her interests were her home, travel and playing bridge, she also enjoyed music, theatre and dance.
