Kernersville-Gordon Elwood Miller, 95, passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at Kerner Ridge Assisted Living. He was born November 28, 1919 in North Dakota to the late Floyd and Ruth Miller. Dr. Miller attended Kernersville Wesleyan Church. He graduated from Houghton College in New York, received his Master’s Degree from the University of Minnesota, and his Honorary Doctorate Degree from Southern Wesleyan University. He served as President and a Professor at the Southern Pilgrim College, Music Director at Christ Wesleyan in Greensboro and on the Board of Aldermen for the town of Kernersville. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Mae Gildow Miller; son, Stephen Miller and a brother and sister. Surviving are his son, Larry (Pauletta) Miller; four grandchildren, Kevin (Darla) Miller, Karen (Doug) Fowler, Jonathan (Kathy) Miller and Jason (Amy) Miller; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; daughter in-law, Bonnie (Irv) Golden. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 16, 2015 at Shady Grove Wesleyan Church with Dr. Keith Carol, Rev. Danny Leroy and Pastor Phil Kirkman officiating. Entombment will follow in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 15, 2015 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel. A special thanks to Kerner Ridge Assisted Living and Hospice for their care of Gordon.
