COLFAX – Mary Burchett Marshall, 94, passed away Thursday, August 12, 2021 at Hospice Home of High Point. Mary was born on May 12, 1927 in Guilford County to John Paul and Beulah Moore Burchett. She retired from Western Electric. Mary was a very active, lifelong member of Salvation Army of Greensboro Church. Later in life, she attended Shady Grove Wesleyan Church. She loved to cook, cross-stitch and enjoyed working in her flowers and quilting. Mary also enjoyed fishing and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan – never missing a game, either in person or watching on TV.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Barney Marshall, Sr.; two brothers, Elmo Burchett and Robert Burchett, Sr.; and one sister, Elizabeth Burchett.
Surviving are her son, Barney “B.G.” Marshall, Jr. (wife, Fran); one brother, Thomas Fred Burchett (wife, Saxon); one sister, Doris Boyce of Naples, FL; one brother-in-law, Terry Marshall (wife, Linda); nieces, Mary Johnson (Dennis) of Naples, FL, Lisa McLaughlin (Doug) of Greensboro, Wendy Basil (Anthony) of Colfax, and Gina Tucker (Scott) of Colfax; nephews, Ted Burchett of Greensboro, Fred Burchett, Jr (Denise) of Cary; R.D. Marshall (Kemp) of Colfax, Craig Marshall (Heidi) of Oak Ridge, and Owen Marshall (Hayley) of Kernersville; and many special great nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 23, 2021 at Shady Grove Wesleyan Church Cemetery in Colfax with Rev. Phil Kirkman officiating. There will be no formal visitation, but friends may come and view Mary, as well as to sign the register book, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 22, 2021, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel.
