‘Man enters plea’

“A Wood River (Nebraska) man entered a plea Friday to boating under the influence in connection with a crash that left two North Carolina stepbrothers dead,” according to the JournalStar.com, of Nebraska. “Brian Packer, 41, pleaded no contest to the misdemeanor charge and could get up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine when he’s sentenced Dec. 7. In exchange for his plea, the state dismissed two manslaughter charges and, according to court records, will not oppose a waiverable jail sentence if the court gives Packer probation,” the JournalStar.com continued.
“Authorities said he was operating a pontoon boat that hit two stepbrothers on a tube on July 3 at Sherman Reservoir. Joshua Rowley, 12, and Matthew McAlexander, 19, died. They were from Kernersville, N.C., and were visiting family in Nebraska,” said the JournalStar.com. “According to prosecutors, Packer drank about eight beers on the day of the crash and had a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit,” said the JournalStar.com.
