Henry London Kidd, Jr. of Colfax NC went to his Heavenly Home on Sunday, August 14, 2016.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held 10:00AM Friday, August 19, 2016 at Shady Grove Wesleyan Church. Interment will immediately follow the service in the church.
Henry was born February 28, 1939 in Colfax, NC. The son of Henry London Kidd, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Rayle Kidd, he was predeceased by his parents and his beloved wife of 25 years, Sharon Evans Kidd.
Henry was awarded a full scholarship to play baseball for Oak Ridge Military Academy upon graduation from Colfax School Class of 1957. He was a member of the State Championship Team of 1955, playing 2nd base. His love for sports and young people led him to be a founding member and Director of the first Colfax Recreation Association (CRA).
As a member of Colfax Fire Department for 35 years, he was a Volunteer Firefighter, member of the Board of Directors, and Treasurer.
As a life-long member of Shady Grove Wesleyan Church, he served faithfully as Board Member, Sunday School Superintendent for 25 years, and Trustee and Chairman of Trustees during the purchase, building and expansion of the new campus at Shady Grove Church.
His career at Desoto Chemical Co, Sherwin Williams, and owner of ALS Fleet Services gave him the opportunity to follow his first love – farming and raising Black Angus Cows. At the age of 15 he won Grand Champion First Place with a Black Angus in the Baby Bull Division.
Henry is survived by his son, Jeffrey Kidd and Lori; grandson, Jeremy Kidd; and his cherished wife of 28 years, Phyllis Gentry Kidd.
The family will visit with friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.
