Hamilton

Charles “Charlie” Lee Hamilton, 76, passed away Sunday, July 31, 2016 at his home. He was born May 25, 1940 in Troy, NC to Charles Brooks and Selma C Walker Hamilton. Charlie was a graduate of North Carolina State University receiving a Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering and was a licensed Professional Engineer. He worked several years for the cities of Charlotte and Kernersville, retiring as Director of Public Works of Kernersville. Charlie served his community and was particularly fond of his activities with the Rotary Club of Davidson County. He also loved gardening and canning tomatoes. Being an engineer, he was crafty, engaging in a number of woodworking activities and ‘experiments’. Raised in Lexington, he was gifted in the art of smoking pork, even delving in the restaurant business. An avid member of the NC State Wolfpack Club, family functions were always scheduled around NC State home football games. Upon retirement, Charlie and Millie ventured across the United States and Canada on an eighty day motor home trip, which would be his favorite vacation.

Charlie was preceded in death by his father Charles Brooks. Surviving are his wife, Millie, his mother Selma C Walker, his sister, Carolyn O’Keefe (husband, Michael; children, Edward and Patrick). Also surviving are his three children, Charles Michael (wife, Hasun; children, Benjamin and Eric), Jennifer Budenhagen (husband Troy; children, Amanda and Emily), and David Walker (wife, Betsy; children Walker and Hayden Elizabeth), and his two stepsons, Stephen (children, Jayson and Anna) and Brent (wife, Pam; children, Allyson and Avery).

Family will receive friends Wednesday, August 3, 2016 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm, at Davidson Funeral Home, 301 North Main Street, Lexington, NC. A funeral service will be held Thursday, August 4th, 2016 at 2:00 p.m., at the Second Reformed United Church of Christ, 330 North Church St, Lexington, NC with Rev. Jim Luck and Rev. Kelly Barefoot.
