Winston Salem – Heaven called home one of its precious Saints, Sunday, July 10, 2016. Wade Henry Gabard, Jr., passed away quietly at home with his family by his side. Wade was born on September 28, 1930 in Forsyth County to Wade, Sr. and Lula McDaniel Gabard.
Wade had a great love for his family, God and country. He served the Lord faithfully as a Sunday School Teacher for 33 years, was a deacon and held other positions at Glenn View Baptist Church. His love for our country called him into service thru the US Air Force during the Korean War after studying Engineering at NC State University. He taught his first Sunday School Class in Germany during that time and was a mentor to many of his comrades. He served for 4 years before coming home to his beautiful wife, Joyce, of 63 years.
In addition to his parents, Wade was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Gabard; a sister, Elsie Blackburn; and a brother, Tommy Gabard.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce Smith Gabard, of the home; a son, Todd Gabard; a daughter, Tammy (Eric) Shaughnessy; two grandchildren, Jeremy (Sarah) Whitley, and Jon (Megan) Whitley; three great grandchildren, Gia, Logan and Parker.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at Glenn View Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Glenn View Baptist Church, 4275 Glenn Hi Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27107 or Mountain Valley Hospice of Dobson, P.O Box 1267, Yadkinville, NC 27055.
