Kernersville – Richard “Dickie” Blaine Edwards, Sr., 94, passed away Sunday July 24, 2016 at his home. Dickie was born July 8, 1922 in Forsyth County to Felix Marvin and Alma Glascoe Edwards. Dickie was a Veteran of the US Army and an active lifelong member of Main Street United Methodist Church, where he served on several committees, including Board of Trustees. In his early adult years, he farmed with his family and later retired from Sears and Roebuck.
In addition to his parents, Dickie was preceded in death by five brothers, Clarence, Ralph, Charles, James and Roger Edwards; and two sisters, Mary Allen and Carolyn Edwards.
Surviving are his wife of 56-1/2 years, Betty Potts Edwards; two sons, Richard Blaine Edwards, Jr. (wife, Patricia) of Kernersville, and Dr. Robert Lee Edwards (wife, Pacie) of Oak Ridge; two grandsons, Blaine Parker and Blake Lee Edwards; and one sister, Louise Edwards Sapp.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Main Street United Methodist Church with Dr. Claude Kayler, Rev. Rick Carter and Rev. Dale Hilton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel.
