Officials with the Town of Kernersville have known for some time repairs were eventually going to be needed to be made to the aging dam at Kernersville Lake Park, but it wasn’t until crews dug into the problem that anyone learned just how significant those repairs would be.
“The dam was built in the 1950s, so it’s an older dam,” said Ernie Pages, director of the Kernersville Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for maintenance of the Town’s lakes and dams. “Three years ago, we did a study on spillover and found that there were voids in the concrete slabs.”
