Walkertown – Mrs. Betty Jean Cox Butner, 74, of Walkertown, NC passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at Forsyth Medical Center. Betty was born on January 13, 1942 in Robeson County to James Aaron and Dorothy Dean Cox. She retired after over 40 years of service from Kayser-Roth and was also employed with the Kernersville News for about 20 years. Mrs. Butner was an avid Bowman Gray race fan, rarely missing a race. She loved sewing, spending time with her family, and her church family.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, Clinton M. Butner and a sister, Nancy Rose.
She is survived by one son, Eugene Butner; four daughters, Rhonda Evans (Murdock), Judy Hill (Anthony), Laura McSwain, and Donna Hernandez (Eugenio); nine grandchildren, Clint Butner, Jennifer Irizarry, Natasha Butner, Tyler Butner, Labrynth Walker, Raydiante Walker, Sophia Evans, Nicholas Evans, and Charlie McSwain; and nine siblings, Mary Ellen Modlin, Barbara Elliott, Joann Elder, Frances Turner, Julia Montgomery, Jimmy Cox, Ronald Cox, Donald Cox, and Peggy Hall.
A funeral service for Betty will be held on Friday, November 11, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Life Impact Church in Winston-Salem with Dr. Billy Ray Norris officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Thursday at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel. Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. Following the graveside, the family will receive family and friends at Kernersville Friends Church, 320 N Main St, Kernersville, NC 27284. Mrs. Butner’s sweet smile will surely be missed.
