Kernersville-Mary Thomas Butler, 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Piney Grove Nursing and Rehabilitation Palliative Care. She was born in Forsyth County on September 27, 1927 to the late Habib (Happy) and Lydia Thomas.
Mary was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Kernersville where she enjoyed helping with the annual Easter egg ministry. Mary graduated from Kernersville High School in 1946. After graduation, she lived and worked in Jacksonville Florida, retiring from Smith Transport in 1992. Mary was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, served on the advisory board for the Order of Rainbow for Girls, and was a Girl Scout Leader. She was a loving, caring and fun-loving generous mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Her light in the world will be missed.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her sister, Jean Barnes and husbands, Clifford Webster and Jay Butler.
She is survived by her daughter, Robin Witherspoon; grandsons, Kris (April) Witherspoon and Jonathan (Amy) Witherspoon; great-grandsons, Blake and Cooper Witherspoon; several cousins and many friends.
A Graveside Service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. David Miller officiating.
Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the Butler family.
