BlakelyMr. Robert “Bob” James Blakely, Sr., 79, died Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Robert was born on August 23, 1936 in Maryland to Fonzo James and Radar Tilley Blakely. Robert was a Veteran of the US Army and was a Colonel with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Department, retiring with over 36 years of service. He was a member of Kernersville Wesleyan Church and has served as an Alderman of Kernersville. Robert owned and operated Skate World since 1972. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved his family deeply and was known as “PaPaw” to his grandchildren. His special sidekick was his beloved poodle “Benji” who went everywhere with him.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his brother, Floyd Blakely and his poodle, Benji.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Hubbard Blakely, of the home; a daughter, Penny Hobson (Darrell); two sons, Robert James Blakely, Jr. (Tracy) and Mike Blakely (Lisa); five grandchildren, Tyler Blakely, Amanda Reich (Justin), Ashley Ellis (Matt), Brandon Blakely and Nicole Coburn (Brett); one great grandchild, Logan Ellis; a sister, Carol Davis; and niece, Jennifer Davis.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at Kernersville Wesleyan Church. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends Monday, September 28, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kernersville Wesleyan Church- OASIS , 930 North Main St, Kernersville, NC 27284.
