Kernersville – Mrs. Mary Ann Cheek Austin, age 78, passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at Kerner Ridge Assisted Living. Mary Ann was born on February 2, 1937 in Orange Co. to Thomas Raymond and Rosa Lee Ball Cheek. She was a loving wife, mother and friend, as well as a strong Christian woman, dedicated to God, her church family and her service to others. Mary Ann had been an active member of Hillcrest Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She enjoyed cooking, entertaining others and had a great sense of adventure. In addition to her parents, Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Bryan Austin; and a brother, Robert Vance Cheek. Surviving are four children; Reggie Austin ( Robin), Tommy Austin (Anne), David Austin (Dawn) and Karen Gray (Sam Welch); seven grandchildren, Beth Hodges (BJ), Shannon Grubbs (Justin), Joshua Austin (Ashley), Whitney Idol (Alan), Andrew Gray (Anna), Seth Austin, and Lonnie Austin; eight great grandchildren, Stavros and Marianna Hodges, Levi Idol, Jase Grubbs, Nolan and Charley Austin, Caroline and Carleigh Gray; one sister, Patricia ‘Tete’ Way Barber; and many other loving family members. A Memorial Service will be conducted 1:00 PM at Hillcrest Baptist Church Sunday, December 20, 2015 with Rev. Jason Murray officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the Austin Family.
