After a life of service to God, family, and community, Kay Collins Sudderth of Kernersville was called home on Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018.
Kay was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Kernersville, where she was the organist and secretary. This continued a practice of worship and service she established in her family’s church, Newland Presbyterian Church of Newland, NC.
She was born in Monroe County on March 9, 1945, to Howard and Mabel Hughes Collins. She earned her bachelor’s and master of business education degrees from Appalachian State University and taught in Avery County Public Schools. She married William Hugh “Rusty” Sudderth, Jr. on August 4, 1968; the couple proudly celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this month.
Surviving are her husband, Rusty; son William Hugh “Chip” Sudderth III, wife Shannon, and grandson Will; and son Charles Collins “Chuck” Sudderth and wife Hsuan-yi Cheng.
The family will receive friends at Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Service, 213 W. Mountain St., Kernersville, NC 27284, from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 14. A service of witness to the resurrection will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 611 Oakhurst St., Kernersville, NC 27284, at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 15. A graveside service will be held in the Hughes Cemetery on Squirrel Creek in Newland at 3 p.m. the same day.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church at the address above or to the Hughes Cemetery Fund, c/o Mrs. Lib Greene, 124 Maple St., Newland, NC 28657.
