Ruth Parker Linville passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at the age of 101. A memorial service celebrating her life will be at 3:00 PM Saturday, June 16,2018 at Oak Ridge United Methodist Church, offi-ciated by Pastor Andy Lambert, Pastor Christy Taylor, and Tim Sessoms. A visitation with family will precede the service in the fellowship hall of the Church beginning at 2 PM. A graveside service will be 2:00 PM Sunday, June 17, 2018 at the Parker Family Cemetery in Woodland, NC.
Ruth was born December 26, 1916 to the late Ruth Peele Parker and William Edgar Parker, in George, North Carolina. She graduated from East Carolina Teachers College, now known as East Carolina Uni-versity, where she played varsity basketball, tennis, soccer and softball. She was married to the late Walter Linville. After graduation, she was a high school Chemistry and Physics teacher for 37 years, teaching most of these years at Kernersville and East Forsyth High Schools. Ruth coached all sports during her 37 years, but was most noted for her 4 State Championships in basketball.
Ruth retired in 1977 to take care of her husband. After he died, she began playing more golf with her friends. She even won her club championship at the age of 68. Ruth loved all sports but especially the Atlanta Braves, tennis, basketball, and golf. She loved her friends and family, and was especially close to her son and granddaughters.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her 5 brothers and sisters, George Parker, Mary Littrell, James Parker, Jesse Parker, and Ester Wethington. She wanted to be placed to rest with her parents and siblings.
Survivors include; son, Robert Parker Linville and wife Judy; granddaughters, Danielle Leigh Linville, and Sarah Ruth Linville Kennedy and husband Chase; stepdaughter, Frances Marlow and many extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Peggy Kirk Bell Girls Golf Tour , address 5834 Bur Mil Club Road, Greensboro, NC 27410. She loved seeing the girls having more opportunities to play and was a big supporter of the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls Golf Tour.
