Edward Jones & Co.

     Edward Jones & Co., established in 1871, is a member of the New York Stock Exchange, Inc. The Kernersville branch was opened in February, 1984 to provide clients with reliable, conservative financial products from a convenient local facility. Located at 109-A East Mountain Street, the firm offers stocks, government securities, tax-free and corporate bonds, mutual and money-market funds, FDIC-insured CDs, annuities and life, disability and long-term care insurance. BB&T

     BB&T (Branch Bank & Trust) is a major, North Carolina-and-beyond banking organization based in Winston-Salem. In recent years, BB&T acquired both the Old Stone Bank and Southern National Bank (which had maintained Kernersville locations), and established its banking branch office, with drive-through, and ATM services at its 237 East Mountain Street location.

Central Carolina Bank & Trust

     Central Carolina Bank & Trust Co. (CCB) has a Kernersville branch office at new Market Plaza, below Business I-40 just off South Main Street (in front of Food Lion).
     CCB features a full line of consumer and commercial loans, as well as full service for all retail banking needs. An automatic teller machine with RELAY connection is also available. Mike Jacobs is branch manager and city executive. (996-8600)

Centura Bank

     Centura Banks, Inc. is a bank holding company formed by the merger of Peoples Bancorporation and the Planters Corporation in November, 1990. Headquartered in Rocky Mount, N.C., Centura Banks, Inc. provides a full range of personal, business and trust banking services. The company has assets of more than $4 billion.
     The local branch office of Centura Bank, located at 823 South Main Street, will move its location on September 11, 1998, into the Kroger store, also on South Main Street. It will then have extended hours of Mon.-Sat. from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and, starting in October, Sunday from 1-5 p.m. (992-1000)

First Citizen's Bank

     First Citizens Bank was founded in 1896 and has operated in Kernersville since 1984.
     The company has assets of $6.9 billion and is ranked as the fifth largest bank in North Carolina. The full-service bank operates 294 offices in 170 communities, offering a complete line of financial products including consumer, commercial and mortgage loans, as well as investment services.
     The Kernersville office, under the direction of J.R. Gorham, vice president and branch manager, is located at 134 South Main Street with access to Cherry St., just south of Mountain Street near the center of town.

First Union

     First Union is a major regional banking firm, headquartered in Charlotte, N.C.
     The Kernersville office of First Union National Bank of N.C. is part of First Union’s 87-year tradition of service and stability. Located at 230 East Mountain Street, the branch office offers a complete range of deposit, loan and investment products, as well as three drive-in teller lanes, a 24-hour ATM and safe deposit boxes. Independence Bank

     Independence Bank opened for business on November 5, 1997, at 211 Broad Street (at the corner of Broad and Harmon). It is the first home-owned bank chartered in Kernersville since 1903.
     Independence Bank offers extended hours – in addition to normal operating hours, it is open until 8 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, and offers drive-through banking hours on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. It also offers top deposit rates, all mortgage types, all consumer loans, small business and commercial loans – all with a rapid response to requests.
     The bank has over 16 employees with over 220 combined years of banking experience. Kenneth E. Flynt is the chief executive officer, and David B. Mancuso serves as chief lending officer. LSB

     As Lexington State Bank (LSB) looks forward to 1999, its Golden Anniversary year, customers of LSB’s Kernersville office, at 131 East Mountain Street, are benefiting from a professional staff of old friends who are providing new financial opportunities.
     The old friends? LSB-Kernersville City Executive/Vice President Debbie Cook, Head Teller Lauri Moses and Assistant Branch Manager Pat Phillips opened the full-service office in February, 1995, and Teller Clay Anne Shaver joined the staff a year later.

Piedmont Federal

     Piedmont Federal Savings & Loan is the oldest financial institution still doing business in town. Founded in 1903, the corporation operates a number of branches in northwest North Carolina. The Kernersville branch, managed by R. Ned Mabe, has been a part of town since 1961. The branch office is located at 203 N. Main Street.

     Wachovia Corporation is an interstate bank holding company with $64.7 billion in assets and dual headquarters in Winston-Salem and Atlanta, Ga.
