ASHEBORO–David Stafford Hawkins, age 86, of Asheboro was unexpectedly called home to be with the Lord and his beloved wife on Sunday, June 21, 2020.
Dave was born in Portsmouth, VA on May 2, 1934 to William and Wilma Stafford Hawkins. Dave was employed in the construction industry in both NC and VA for most of his life and was currently employed preparing residential architectural designs. He was a long-time member of First Assembly of God Church where he previously served as the business pastor. He loved to restore old cars and was known for his “Gray Ghost” 1950 Chevy Truck. He treasured his family and loved them deeply and affectionately. He led his family with great dignity and remarkable strength. You could not find a better model of Christ’s love for His church. He was a faithful man of God who ministered, mentored and shaped the lives of countless young men and women. In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Carol Janet Perdue Hawkins, granddaughters, Sherry and Shannon Hawkins, and daughter-in-law, Sherry G. Hawkins.
He is survived by his children, David Hawkins Jr., Chris Hawkins (Christie), Maridee Kivett (Bobby), Michelle Phelps; grandchildren, Stephanie Young (Scott), Shaun Hawkins, Shane Hawkins, Aaron Hawkins, Abigail Canipe (Daniel), Justin Kivett (Sarah), Travis Kivett (Shelly), Courtney Caudill (Joel), Lauren Hayden (Dan), Brittany Etheridge (Jared), Andrew Phelps, Kelsey Phelps, Sydney Phelps; great grandchildren, Paige Hawkins, Marshall Hawkins, Stetson Hawkins, Madelyn Kivett, Rebekah Kivett, Aubrianna Kivett, Emma Kivett, Alexa Kivett, Addison Kivett, John Kivett, Isabella Kivett, Ezra Etheridge, Jude Etheridge, Simeon Hayden, and baby Caudill; sisters Barbara Beal (Don), Carolyn McClure, and Dianne Roudabush (David); and brothers, Joel Hawkins (Sherry) and Stephen Hawkins.
Mr. Hawkins body will lie in state on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 1:00-5:00 pm and on Thursday, June 25, 2020 from 8:30-10:30 am at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am at First Assembly of God, 909 Meadowbrook Road in Asheboro with Pastor David Snyder officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.
