Guy

Guy

My mom believed that Jesus Christ died for our sins and that we will one day be reunited, which I find comforting as I share with you that Elizabeth Allen Guy (Born April 18, 1944 in Portsmouth, VA), passed away in her sleep on the morning of Sunday, May 17, 2020, believed to be a result of complications from Covid-19.
She, along with her brother, Glenn D. Allen (Richmond, Va) and her sister, Jeannette Christiansen (Winchester, Va) grew up the children of Henry Vandon Allen Jr. and Elizabeth Grizzard Allen, all of whom, she loved very much.
She was a graduate of George Wythe High School (Richmond, Va) in the class of 1962.
She married my father, Leon Martin (Kernersville) and raised myself and my sister, Michele Martin Davis (Kernersville, NC).
She later married the second love of her life, James Guy (Winston Salem, NC).
Elvis, Cherry Coke Zero and Mounds bars brought her a great deal of joy over the years, but she simply beamed when my wife Kim brought her homemade coconut cakes at The Fairmont (Manassas, Va) and Annandale Healthcare Center (formerly Sleepy Hollow, Annandale, Va), where she called home since 2017.
I am grateful to the nurturing and compassionate nurses who gave special care to her when I could only talk to her through the window these last few weeks and foremost that I had these last few years through the generosity of the family, who came to my aid, when I needed it most.
Though she enjoyed bridge for many years and derived great pleasure from buying Reese’s Cups with her Bingo earnings at the Annandale resident store, her happiest moments were spent describing her grandchildren from the visits she received or pointing out how beautiful they were in the pictures beside her bed, for anyone who would listen.
As I share her story with you today, I know the world was made better with her and that her grandson – Michael Taft Martin (Alexandria, Va) and granddaughters Allee Elizabeth Davis, Whitley Smith Davis and Aubrey May Davis (Kernersville, NC) will serve as testimony from the good that can come from a positive and fun-loving matriarch, my mother, Elizabeth Allen Guy.
We will all miss you, Momma…
Scott Martin and family
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to “Children’s Ministries” at Main St UMC 306 S. Main St. Kernersville, NC 27284
