For many, it was the first time they’d been so warmly welcomed home since returning from the war. “That was great,” said Robert Grier, one of at least eight Kernersville residents who traveled to Bedford, Va. to visit the D-Day Memorial on Friday, June 6, the 70th anniversary of the largest military amphibious invasion in history.
