Suspect in stolen vehicle causes crash

At approximately 9:45 p.m. Saturday, June 6, the Kernersville Police Department (KPD) received a report of a theft of a motor vehicle in progress. According to police, while enroute officers located the stolen truck traveling east on West Mountain Street. Officers activated their blue lights and siren and attempted to stop the stolen vehicle. Police said the suspect refused to stop, accelerated, and crossed over into the center turn lane and struck a Harley-Davidson. Police said the suspect then fled, continuing to travel east on Mountain Street. Officers reportedly deployed stop sticks to deflate the suspect’s tires. The KPD said the suspect was involved in an earlier motor vehicle theft, as well as multiple hit and run collisions involving property damage. The suspect, identified by police as Julian Caretti, from Walkertown, was taken into custody. He is being held on a $35,000 bond. The occupants of the motorcycle, Theron Jonathan Willis and Christa Leann Stum, both of Kernersville, were transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center with serious injuries. Further charges are pending.
