After changing her career path, Walkertown Middle School Teacher of the Year Valerie Reyes is making a difference. Reyes grew up in Greensboro. She attended Winston-Salem State University for a degree in computer science and a minor in math. After she graduated, she went to work, but soon realized what she was doing wasn’t what she wanted to do. “It wasn’t really in my heart. I wanted to mean something to somebody,” she said.
