National Work Zone Awareness Week, which is held each April, is an effort to bring national attention to motorists about worker safety and mobility issues in work zones. According to the Department of Transportation Highway Administration, in 2012 there were 609 traffic-related fatalities; 32,000 injuries; 130 worker fatalities; and 132 fatal crashes involving large trucks and busses.
