Traffic fatality

On Friday, September 23, at approximately 1:23 pm, the Kernersville Police Department (KPD) responded to the intersection of NC Highway 66 South and the off ramp from US 421 North on a reported motor vehicle collision with injuries.
Police said a Toyota Camry, operated by 53-year-old Thomas James Feist of Kernersville, and an International Flatbed truck, operated by 58-year-old Michael Robert Swanger of Greensboro, were attempting to make a left turn from the off ramp of US 421 North onto NC Hwy 66. A 2003 Ford F-350 Truck, operated by 37-year-old Randall Keith Ashley of Summerfield, was traveling south on NC Highway 66. As the three vehicles entered the intersection, the vehicles reportedly collided.
Ashley suffered minor injuries as a result of the collision, and refused medical treatment on scene. Swanger was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center (WFBMC) by Forsyth County Emergency Medical Services (FCEMS) with moderate injuries. Feist and a passenger in the 2014 Toyota Camry, identified as 81-year-old Patricia Nussear Feist of Kernersville, was also transported to WFBMC by FCEMS with serious injuries.
Police said Patricia Feist later died while receiving medical treatment at WFBMC. The KPD’s Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating the cause and circumstances surrounding the death of Mrs. Feist as well as the collision. Anyone with information concerning this investigation is asked to contact Officer John Collins with the KPD at 336-996-3177.
This is the fourth traffic related fatality in Kernersville this year, compared to two fatalities during the same time period last year
